Angola and Namibia signed on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 9, a bilateral agreement that will henceforth regulate the operation of the Calueque dam, which aims primarily at the movement of technicians of the Namibian company that operates the Enterprise of that country, located in our country, which benefits Angola through the pumping system that supplies water to people in the region of Oshakati and benefits equally the northern part of Namibia.
Witnessed by the Minister of Energy and Water, Mr. João Baptista Borges and the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform of Namibia, Mr. Carl Schlettwein, signed the agreement for Angola the Director of the Office of Administration of Cunene Cubango and Cuvelai Basins, Architect Carolino Mendes and for Namibia, Mr. Elijah Ngurare.
Built between 1972 and 1976, as a result of the armed conflict, it underwent a rehabilitation process in 2012 and completed the works in 2016.
Calueque has as one of the main objectives, the regularization of the flow of the river to ensure maximum efficiency of energy production the Ruacana Hydroelectric Power Plant, as well as provide water for human consumption, livestock and irrigation on both sides of the border of Angola / Namibia and ensure road access, through the bridge incorporated in the Dam, concluded João Baptista Borges.
On his return to Ondjiva, the Angolan Governor and his entourage visited the installation works of the New Thermoelectric Plant, which is in the phase of increasing its production capacity by 100 percent with the installation of one more 28MW turbine, with start-up date scheduled for this month.
