Following the legend that is Tom Jones onto the stage was a big ask – but one that James Arthur took in his stride as he headlined the second night of Custom House Square gigs.
Over 18 months after coronavirus changed life as we know it, folks seemed ecstatic to be out in numbers again with the city well and truly buzzing on Wednesday night for the second of a series of concerts expected to welcome thousands.
The Belfast square was a sea of mobile phones as people danced, sang and partied the night away, some for the first time in a long time as the rain stayed away.
Lyra warmed the crowd up for everyone who turned out to see English star Arthur on his return to Belfast.
Those lucky enough to live in the surrounding apartments made the most of their bird’s eye view of the event too, dancing the evening away on balconies and clearly enjoying the gig.
The energy was palpable as the crowd sang along to the performer’s heartfelt love songs like Medicine and Falling Like the Stars and fan favourite, Rewrite the Stars.
