Eamonn Holmes has been open about his battle with chronic pain for the past few months.
While hosting This Morning on Friday, August 6, the 61-year-old briefly mentioned his struggle with chronic pain and the impact it has had.
The Belfast native first opened up about his health battle back in March where he ended up in hospital to try and discover the reason for his discomfort.
He later discovered he had suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis – but he didn’t know how it happened.
Eamonn has since given his followers updates on his progress as he began his road to recovery with steroid injections and rehab.
He also revealed he lost nerves in his right leg due to his injury and has been using a walking aide which viewers have sometimes spotted on-screen.
On Friday’s show, Eamonn and Ruth Langsford were chatting to former rugby player Ed Jackson, who suffered life-changing injuries after jumping into a swimming pool in 2017.
He hit his head on the tiles at the bottom of the pool after misreading how deep it was. As a result, Ed ended up paralysed and was told he would never walk again.
However, he was able to walk into the ITV studio alongside wife Lois after making amazing progress.
Eamonn was taken back by Ed’s bravery and determination to defy all odds and walk again. While making sure not to compare the two situations, the broadcaster noted that Ed’s progress is a huge inspiration.
“Not only did they say you’re not going to walk again, but you couldn’t feel anything at that stage from your chest downwards,” Eamonn said.
“The prognosis, not good. I don’t know what the expectations was for you, but could I just say, in my minor way I’ve got two slipped discs and I’ve got problems walking and whatever, whatever.
“It’s been going on for three months and I get quite depressed about it sometimes and I think, ‘this is not going to get better’.”
He then added to Ed: “My friend, how humbled am I reading your story and listening to you because your prognosis was: that’s it! And I watched you today walk into the studio, walk across here, how are you doing that?”
Eamonn and Ruth are hosting This Morning while Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take a break during the summer holidays.
