It's A Sin's Callum Scott Howells cast in Netflix football film with Bill Nighy and Michael Ward

Welsh actor Callum Scott Howells has landed a role in Netflix football film, The Beautiful Game, opposite Bill Nighy and Top Boy’s Michael Ward.

The film follows a team of English homeless footballers, led by their coach Mal (Bill Nighy), who travel from London to Rome to compete in a global annual football tournament – The Homeless World Cup. Fellow Welsh actor, Michael Sheen, was instrumental in bringing said tournament to Cardiff back in 2019 and you can read more on that, here.

It’s not known what role Tonyrefail actor Callum is playing, but Bafta Rising Star-winner Ward is playing talented striker Vinny who must confront his own issues and once-promising past, in order to help the team win the cup and move on with his own life.

Callum rocketed into the TV-watching public’s consciousness in January when Channel 4 aired Russell T Davies’ It’s A Sin, an affecting story of a group of young friends in 1980s London who come up against the Aids epidemic. The 22-year-old, a huge Cardiff City fan, played Colin Morris whose tragic story brought the effects of the illness to the front door of valleys life.
