The British Olympic team continue to bring home gold, silver, and bronze, with medals being won in all sorts of events, from sailing to swimming and taekwondo to triathlon.
Our set of Olympic winners follow in the footsteps of some of our previous champions, with Britain historically doing very well in events like cycling, athletics, rowing, and sailing.
Team GB ‘s greatest stars have included cyclists like Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny, Bradley Wiggins, and Laura Kenny, as well as the legendary rowing teammates Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent.

With a vast number of awards between them, they are part of a rich tapestry of GB Olympic medals history.
The Tokyo Olympics have not been without incident, with some athletes having to isolate due to coronavirus concerns.
How many medals has Team GB won at the Tokyo Olympics?
As of August 3, the current GB medal total stands at:
13 Gold
16 Silver
13 Bronze
Overall, this currently leaves us ranked 5th (4th by total medals awarded).
Some of our notable winners have been in sailing, where Giles Scott won the Finn class, with GB also taking gold in men’s 49er and silver in mixed Nacra 17.
Charlotte Worthington and Bethany Shriever took gold in the BMX and BMF, respectively, as well as London’s own Kye Whyte who won a BMX silver medal.
Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown won silver medals in both the men’s and women’s individual triathlon.
Team GB has also won bronze medals in all sorts of events, including dressage, judo, shooting, swimming, and boxing.
Jason Kenny officially became Team GB’s most successful Olympian by taking silver in the cycling team sprint, bringing his overall medal tally up to eight. He has now overtaken Bradley Wiggins, the previous record holder.
His wife, Laura Kenny, is currently the most successful British female Olympian with four golds and a silver.

When is the closing ceremony?
The Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony took place on Friday, July 23, and the closing ceremony is scheduled to commence on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
The BBC’s coverage will last from 11.55am until 3pm on BBC One in the UK.
