I’m a Celebrity will return to Gwrych Castle in Wales for its next series as travel restrictions to Australia make it too difficult for ITV to take the show Down Under.
MirrorOnline reports that the show will return to the Welsh castle near Abergele. Presenters Ant & Dec said they were made to feel ‘very welcome’ in Wales last year with Ant adding that they “would happily go back to Wales if we had to.” Earlier this year it was thought the show might make it back to Australia.

ITV confirmed this afternoon that the show will be back at Gwrych with Head of Entertainment for the network, Katie Rawcliffe, saying: “We can confirm today that we’ll be returning to Wales for the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! We’ve always said we have contingencies in place for the series if the covid situation continued to bring uncertainty, and after a highly successful run at the castle last year we’re pleased that we can return there. I have no doubt the production team will produce another hugely entertaining series.”

Dr Mark Baker, Chair of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust said “I’m absolutely delighted that I’m A Celebrity has chosen Gwrych Castle to be its UK location for the 2021 series.
Gwrych Castle is a beautiful grade I listed historic house and a must-see destination for tourists visiting Wales. I’m A Celebrity being here will really help support its ongoing restoration as well as giving the region a much-needed economic boost. We are all very excited to be working with the team again.”
One source revealed earlier today: “The logistics involved in trying to get the entire production team plus celebrities and presenters and all the families to the other side of the world amid the ongoing Covid travel restrictions has just proved too difficult this year.
“The show will be in Wales again and it will be brilliant, just like last year. There is a lot of humour involved in making I’m a Celebrity from a spooky castle at a dark, damp time of year on the Welsh coast. It will be a hoot.”
Ant & Dec are coming back!
Earlier this summer Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that he intended to keep Australia’s borders closed indefinitely, stating that the completion of the vaccine rollout did not guarantee a reopening.
“We have to be careful not to exchange that way of life for what everyone else has,” he said.
In a later post on Facebook, he warned borders would only be opened “when it is safe to do so”. This meant for ITV to be able to go to Australia to film the show, every member of cast and crew as well as celebrity contestants coming from the UK would need to apply for individual exemptions to travel.
Queensland, where the show is usually filmed, has just gone into lockdown as cases of the Delta variant spread. Acting Premier for the state Steven Miles extended a lockdown until Sunday, August 8 as a cluster of cases are linked to school in the state.
