I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is officially returning to Wales for this year’s series.
ITV has confirmed the location after a “highly successful run” at Gwrych Castle in Abergele last year, which saw Giovanna Fletcher crowned the first Queen of the Castle.
Speculation over whether I’m A Celeb would return to Wales or the Australian jungle has been rife for months, with presenters Ant and Dec recently confirming it was very much still up in the air. You can read more on this here.
But now the broadcaster has officially confirmed the 2021 series will be located in Wales due to the “continued uncertainty” around Covid-19 and international travel.
Here’s everything we know so far, from the location, to the rumoured line-up and what the Welsh Government has said.

Where is I’m A Celeb 2021 located?
ITV has confirmed the 21st series of I’m A Celebrity will return to the historic Gwrych Castle in Abergele.
The show will be hosted by Ant and Dec and broadcast live every night from the ruined castle, as a brand new cast of celebrities adjust to their new surroundings.
It will be only the second time the series has taken place at Gwrych Castle, with the first becoming the second most-watched series of I’m A Celebrity, which has been on air since 2002 and usually takes place in the Australian jungle.
There was a huge reaction to the series first airing in Wales last year, you read more on this here.

Why isn’t I’m A Celeb 2021 taking place in Australia?
Aside from the breathtaking views of rolling hills and the stunning grade I listed historic building where the camp is based, not to the mention the millions of viewers that tuned in last year, the ongoing coronavirus crisis and the uncertainty it brings has also been cited as a reason for this year’s show taking place in Wales by ITV bosses.
ITV Head of Entertainment Commissioning, Katie Rawcliffe, said: “We can confirm today that we’ll be returning to Wales for the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
“We’ve always said we have contingencies in place for the series if the covid situation continued to bring uncertainty, and after a highly successful run at the castle last year we’re pleased that we can return there.
“I have no doubt the production team will produce another hugely entertaining series.”
Director of Unscripted at Lifted Entertainment, Richard Cowles, added: “With the continued uncertainty around covid and international travel we have taken the decision not to return to our home in Australia for the 2021 series.
“We’re excited to return to Gwrych Castle. The last series was a huge success and we were made to feel so welcome by everyone locally and can’t wait to see everyone again.”
What has the Welsh Government said?
The Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, Dawn Bowden, said: “This is excellent news and we look forward to welcoming the I’m a Celebrity team back to Wales this year, and to working with them to make it an even better year! Croeso nol! Welcome back!”
Chair of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust, Dr Mark Baker, has also responded.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted that I’m A Celebrity has chosen Gwrych Castle to be its UK location for the 2021 series.
“Gwrych Castle is a beautiful grade I listed historic house and a must-see destination for tourists visiting Wales. I’m A Celebrity being here will really help support its ongoing restoration as well as giving the region a much-needed economic boost. We are all very excited to be working with the team again.”
Ant and Dec are yet to react to the news but previously said they would “gladly” return to Wales.
Speaking prior to the decision being made, Dec told ITV’s Lorraine: ” People are having conversations with Australia to see if they’ll let us in and to see if that’s going to work. If not we’ve got a lovely alternative to go back to Wales.
“We had a great time there, we had a really lovely series and the people of North Wales made us feel very, very welcome so we’d gladly go back there.”

While nothing has been announced rumours have already started swirling about the new series.

Meanwhile EastEnders legend Jake Wood, 49, who played Max Branning on the soap from 2006 to 2021, is said to be “in advanced talks” about the show.
A source told The Sun: “He would love to go into the jungle. He thinks it would be a great challenge for him and he has of course seen how well other EastEnders stars have done.”
Other celebrities who have shared interest in singing up is Love Island’s Olivia Attwood and Gogglebox’s Tom Malone Jr.
