ofNetflix has shared the first look at Harry Potter star Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown.
The actress has taken over for the fifth series of the hit show based on the life of the British Royal Family.
The fifth and sixth run of the series will be the final two, confirmed Netflix in 2020.
The image shows Staunton as the Queen as the 1990s move along, during which the Royals saw Charles and Diana divorce, Windsor Castle hit by fire and, in 1997, the death of Princess Diana.

Claire Foy and Olivia Colman took on the role for two series each up until and including series four and their stories spanned the Queen’s life between 1947 when she married Prince Philip and the early 1990s, which featured the years Diana, Princess of Wales and Margaret Thatcher were at the peak of their influence.

Also joining the fifth and sixth series of The Crown are Welsh actor, Jonathan Pryce, who takes over from Tobias Menzies as the Duke of Edinburgh, Lesley Manville will replace Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Elizabeth Debicki will portray Diana.

During Olivia Colman’s tenure in the show, The Crown featured two significant periods in Welsh history, the Aberfan tragedy of 1966 and Prince Charles’ time at Aberystwyth University and is investiture.
