Narnia brought to life by new immersive experience at Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor

Families can meet some of the world’s most beloved children’s characters at a new immersive experience in Co Down this summer.

The tour has been developed in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor, where visitors are transported into the real Chronicles of Narnia realm.

The story is brought to life by several colourful characters as you make your way around the Narnia Trail in the park, with the journey guaranteed to spark the imaginations of all ages.

C.S. Lewis fell in love with the Mourne Mountains at a young age, as he holidayed in the area, and its beauty is said to have inspired his book which has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.

Lewis is reported to have written a letter to his brother saying: “That part of Rostrevor which overlooks Carlingford Lough is my idea of Narnia.”

The Narnia Trail celebrates his links with the area through a 90-minute journey that starts in the Narnia Room, followed by a walk around the trail.

Camilla Fitzpatrick, of the Mourne Heritage Trust said: “We are delighted to announce these experience dates at a time when parents are trying to entertain children and many are choosing to holiday closer to home – this is perfect for the staycation market.

“It’s a different and fun way to spend an hour and a half but why not make a day of it, as Kilbroney Park and the Rostrevor area has so much more to offer.”

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (NI), the initiative has been developed by the Mourne Heritage Trust in association with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

Dates are available from now until the end of August and numbers are limited in line with Covid guidance.
